What’s included in your stay?
All of your meals and drinks at our bars and restaurants, non-motorized watersports, land sports, entertainment, crèche, Kids Club and Teen Clubhouse, chic and spacious accommodations, Wi-Fi access, All We Need Is Love Wedding Package (special conditions apply), fully equipped 24-hour Fitness Center, two idyllic pools, swim-up pool bar, tranquil escape in our bay and all tips, gratuities and hotel taxes.
What’s NOT included in your stay?
Motorized watersports, spa treatments, excursions, transportation, Gift Shop purchases, phone calls, and options in the Sugar Bay Chattel Plaza.
Are beach towels provided?
Beach towels can be collected and exchanged daily for fresh towels at the Watersports Hut. If your towels are not returned then a BDS$50/USD$25 charge per towel will be incurred.
Is there an onsite store?
La Tienda at Sugar Bay Barbados sells an array of products such as magazines, novels, beachwear and accessories, jewelry, light snacks and beverages including quality wines and champagnes.
Is there a swimming pool in the hotel?
We have two pools available for your pleasure, with the main pool located near Reef Restaurant which also includes a Swim-up Bar.
Is parking available at the hotel?
Complimentary parking is available on property for all guests.
Are there hairdryers in the rooms?
Hairdryers are located in the bathrooms.
Is a doctor available at the hotel?
We have a doctor on call. You will be responsible for any additional charges if the doctor is called or if a prescription is needed.
Is it safe to drink tap water in Barbados?
Our tap water is chlorinated and filtered and is very safe to drink.
Is there a spa onsite? What are the hours?
Karma Spa is open Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. Appointments can be made with the Concierge Desk or with the spa receptionist during opening hours. Please note that spa treatments are not included in the all-inclusive package.
Is there a fitness centre? What are the hours?
We do have a fitness centre which is well equipped with cardio and weight equipment. The centre is available 5 am – 10 pm.
Can I book an ocean view room?
Of course. We have Oceanfront Rooms, Oceanfront Honeymoon Suites, Deluxe Oceanfront Suites, Oceanfront Family Suites, and Two Bedroom Oceanfront Suites that have amazing ocean views.
Can I have two double beds?
All of our rooms carry a king bed, however twin beds are available on request.
Can we have an extra bed in the room?
Some of our rooms have a pullout sofa which are quite comfortable. However, if you prefer not to use it, you do have the option of requesting a rollaway bed. The rollaway is a single bed, which is comparable in comfort to a typical bed.
We’re in a large group – can we request adjoining rooms?
We accept requests for adjoining rooms and will always do our best to accommodate you and your family/friends. However we cannot guarantee that adjoining rooms will be available.
What types of amenities are included in the rooms?
Air-conditioning, mini fridge, cable TV, direct dial phone, free Wi-Fi, in-room safe, coffee/tea making facilities, iPod dock, hair dryer and iron and ironing board.
I booked on a website other than the hotel website and I need to make a change to my reservation. How do I do this?
It’s best to contact the website you made the reservation with to make any changes.
What is the Room Rate Levy?
The newly appointed government of Barbados has implemented new policies which are designed to put the island on a better and brighter path. One such policy introduced is a mandatory Tourism Tax effective July 1st, 2018.
All guests staying at Sugar Bay Barbados through July 1st, 2018 onward will have the levy added to their room folio, and at check-out will be charged an additional US $9.63 per room, per night.
How many restaurants and bars do you have and what are they?
We have five bars and four restaurants available…
Restaurants: Reef (international and local buffet cuisine), UMI (Asian fusion featuring Sushi & Sashimi), Sizzle Steakhouse and Colin’s Beach Bar & Grill.
Bars: Reef Bar, swim-up pool bar, Sizzle Bar, Colin’s Beach Bar and Lazy Mongoose Pub.
Is vegetarian cuisine available in the restaurants?
All of our restaurants offer vegetarian options. If you have special dietary requirements, please inform our waiters/waitresses. Our chefs are happy to assist with options designed for your special needs.
Is there an extra cost for premium drinks?
Yes, there is an extra cost for premium drinks at the bars. Additionally, wine and champagne by the bottle will incur a fee.
Do I have to dine at certain times and at a pre-arranged table?
Breakfast is served at Reef Restaurant from 7:00 am – 10:00 am. Lunch at both Reef and Colin’s Beach Bar & Grill start from 12:00 Noon – 3:00 pm and Afternoon Tea is served from 4:00 pm – 5:00pm in Reef Restaurant. Dinner at the restaurants start at 6:30pm. There is no pre-arranged seating in any of our restaurants, so you’re free to sit where you like.
Can the resort accommodate food allergies?
Please make the waiter/waitress aware of any food allergies so the chef can be advised.
Is there room service available?
Room service is available at a surcharge of BDS$10/US$5 from Colin’s Rum Shop for lunch, or Reef Restaurant for dinner.
Is there a dress code for the restaurants?
UMI and Sizzle Steakhouse – Smart Casual dress code is recommended for your comfort. Minimum of tailored shorts, shirts with sleeves, closed shoes or sandals. Flip flops are not allowed.
Do I need to make dinner reservations?
Dinner reservations for UMI and Sizzle Steakhouse are required. When dining with 4 or more persons at Reef or Colin’s, reservations are required.
How many times can I dine at the restaurants?
There is unlimited dining at Reef and Colin’s Beach Bar & Grill. Dinner at our specialty restaurants Sizzle and/or Umi, is limited to once every three days or twice within a one-week period. Additional nights may be booked at US$25 per person, per night. "A minimum night stay of 3 nights is required to dine at the specialty restaurants."
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check in is 4:00pm and check out is 12:00pm.
What credit cards do you accept, and in what currency will credit card payments be taken?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. All payments are taken in local currency (Barbados dollars).
Can I exchange money at the hotel?
Currency exchange is daily (7am - 5:30pm)
What currency is used in Barbados and what is the exchange rate to the US dollar?
Barbados has its own currency. US$1.00 = BDS$1.95.
Can I have a late checkout?
Late checkouts can be confirmed the day of departure with the Front Desk.
Is it possible to check-in earlier?
You can check in at any time, however, we cannot confirm your room will be ready before 4:00pm. Once you have arrived, we will store your luggage and you are free to use all our facilities until the room is ready.
Can we bring the kids?
Sugar Bay is a resort for all-ages. There are activities designed specifically for children of all ages.
What’s there for kids to do?
We offer Crèche, Kids Club and Teen Clubhouse. The Crèche is available daily from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm and closed from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Kids Club is also available Monday to Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm and closed from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm and reopens from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Is there a babysitting service?
Babysitting services are available and can be booked with the Front Desk. Note that we require at least 12 hours’ notice to ensure that your requirements can be met. The fee is US$12.50 per hour for one child and US$5 for each additional child. When after 10:00 pm, the cost of transportation home for the sitter will be added.
Are baby cots and highchairs available?
Cots can be requested to be placed in the room at no additional charge. Highchairs are also available when dining in the restaurants.
Is Internet access available?
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort.
What is the voltage in Barbados?
The voltage is 110 V – 50 cycle.
Do I need to bring an electrical adapter?
Adaptors can be borrowed from Front Desk.
How safe is Barbados?
Barbados is still one of the safest destinations in the world. However, as anywhere, crime does occur. You can feel comfortable exploring the island, but please exercise good judgment (i.e. do not wear excessive jewelry or expose your money, do not walk alone at night or in isolated areas, etc.) In-room safes have been provided free of charge for you to store your valuables. Safety deposit boxes are also available at Reception.
Can I swim at Sugar Bay’s beach?
Not only does Sugar Bay have a stunning stretch of beach, but it also have a cool calm bay perfect for swimming and paddle boarding.
Can I smoke in the hotel?
Smoking is prohibited in public buildings in Barbados. Sugar Bay Barbados’ smoke free policy means that smoking in the hotel’s rooms, on balconies, restaurants, lobbies or in any place that is not a designated smoking area is illegal and subject to fines of up to US$2,500. To offset the extensive cost of restoring guest rooms to a smoke-free condition, guests who do not comply will be charged a fee of US$250, no exceptions.
Are there mosquitoes?
It is impossible to come to the Caribbean and not encounter insects. Mosquitoes are not prevalent, but can be attracted to visitors. If requested, we would be happy to spray your room. We also recommend the use of a mosquito repellent.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not permitted.
Is there an in-room safe available to store our valuables?
All of our rooms are equipped with in-room safes.
Are there any shopping centers near the hotel and if so, where are they?
- Lantern’s Mall – 10 mins away by car
- Hastings Plaza – 10 mins away by car
- Sheraton Mall – 15 – 20 mins away by car
- Bridgetown – 5 mins away by car
How far is the hotel from the Bridgetown?
About 5 minutes away by car.
What excursions are available? How do I organize excursions/ activities outside the hotel?
- We offer on-site watersports such as wind surfing, jet skis, banana boat and sailing(charge applies).
- Excursions outside of the hotel can be arranged with our concierge desk.
Is a passport required to travel to Barbados?
Yes, a valid passport is required.
What’s there to do nearby?
The Garrison Historic Area, Garrison Savannah, Barbados Museum, George Washington House and the South Coast Boardwalk.
Do you provide transportation from the airport?
We do not provide airport transfers, however, when you exit the Arrivals Hall at the airport, there are taxis readily available. The cost of a transfer from the airport to the hotel is approximately USD$25.
How do I get around Barbados?
Some places are easy to get to by walking, however you can also try our public transportation system (big blue buses), or the privately owned minibuses. Taxis and rental cars can also be arranged with our Front Desk or Concierge.
Can I rent a car in Barbados?
Yes, car rentals can be arranged with our Concierge Desk. This can also be booked prior to your arrival.
